This piece was published in KQED's California Report as part of a multimedia package. This piece focuses on long time salon owner Paulet Gaines. Gaines describes how she's struggled to keep her doors open in the historically black Fillmore District of San Francisco. Like the rest of the city, the neighborhood has undergone extreme gentrification, and longtime business owners like Gaines have lost clients as the neighborhood's demographics have changed and rents have risen.

Crossing the Divide Snapchat Takeover
I was the video fellow for a fellowship called Crossing the Divide. A cross country reporting trip from Massachusetts to California covering issues that divide us and telling stories that unite us. The fellowship was sponsored by the flagship PBS station, WGBH, and a non-profit called the Ground Truth Project. As the video fellow, I was responsible for making 5 videos at each of our locations in Massachusetts, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, and California. But on top of that, I was also hosting our Snapchat handle, giving viewers a behind the scene of how video journalism is made. Here are some of my highest performing snaps:

Timeline Media: The Long Hot Summer of 1967
I was apart of a new media project with Timeline news called "The Long Hot Summer of 1967." It was a season of uprising nationwide. In more than 75 riots, 16,000 people were arrested and 83 died. On the 50th anniversary, we took audiences on a multimedia experience of what those days of hope and rage felt like in real time. Here a two social video samples from the project:
